Welcome to Coastal Towns
Highway 1, aka the Pacific Coast Highway, meanders south of San Francisco through small towns like Pacifica, a surfer's delight, Montara, and Half Moon Bay. Along the coast are numerous beaches, lighthouses, sloughs for kayaking, deep-sea fishing, and agricultural fields lush with strawberries and artichokes. Half Moon Bay is the southern anchor on this slice of coast, with restaurants, shops, inns, and art galleries. Nearby is Ano Nuevo State Reserve, winter home of endangered elephant seals.
Find out how to get around San Francisco using public transportation, including the city's bus system, cable cars, streetcars, and BART (rapid transit).
